Summary

Beloved bestselling author Mitch Albom returns with a powerful novel that moves from a small village in Greece during the Holocaust, to America, where the intertwined lives of three survivors are forever changed by the perils of deception and the grace of redemption。

Eleven-year-old Nico Crispi never told a lie。 When the Nazi's invade his home in Salonika, Greece, the trustworthy boy is discovered by a German officer, who offers him a chance to save his family。 All Nico has to do is convince his fellow Jewish residents to board trains heading towards "the east" where they are promised jobs and safety。 Unaware that this is all a cruel ruse, the innocent boy goes to the station platform every day and reassures the passengers that the journey is safe。 But when the final train is at the station, Nico sees his family being loaded into a large boxcar crowded with other neighbors。 Only after it is too late does Nico discover that he helped send the people he loved--and all the others--to their doom at Auschwitz。

Nico never tells the truth again。

In The Little Liar, his first novel set during the Holocaust, Mitch Albom interweaves the stories of Nico, his brother Sebastian, and their schoolmate Fanni, who miraculously survive the death camps and spend years searching for Nico, who has become a pathological liar, and the Nazi officer who radically changed their lives。 As the decades pass, Albom reveals the consequences of what they said, did, and endured。

A moving parable that explores honesty, survival, revenge and devotion, The Little Liar is Mitch Albom at his very best。 Narrated by the voice of Truth itself, it is a timeless story about the harm we inflict with our deceits, and the power of love to ultimately redeem us。

This was an easy to read page turner。 Truth will set you free。。。。you find this out in the end。 Nico's life and everyone in it is changed by the "truth" he is told to spread。 The innocence of a child is taken advantage of and in turn, unknowingly, he hurts and loses the people close to him。 The truth then becomes the lie and he is forever changed。 The story comes full circle and nothing goes unanswered。 Another excellent book written by Mitch Albom。 This was an easy to read page turner。 Truth will set you free。。。。you find this out in the end。 Nico's life and everyone in it is changed by the "truth" he is told to spread。 The innocence of a child is taken advantage of and in turn, unknowingly, he hurts and loses the people close to him。 The truth then becomes the lie and he is forever changed。 The story comes full circle and nothing goes unanswered。 Another excellent book written by Mitch Albom。 。。。more

I don’t usually like historical fiction but I couldn’t put this book down。 It broke my heart from start to finish but is so beautifully written, captivating, and completely different from other books I’ve read, even other books about the Holocaust。

This was, at times, a difficult book to listen to read。 The subject matter about the Nazis in Greece is something I never learned in school。 The characters were well developed and I could close my eyes and picture each one of them in a future movie of this title。 To me, the sign of a great book is when I can't stop thinking about it, and the characters, even after I have put it away for the day。 This is that book! Probably the best book I have read all year。 Definitely worthy of a movie。

Important to keep the Holocaust top of mind especially after reading 20% of Gen Z believes it is a myth and another 29% of that cohort thinks it’s exaggerated。 This story was told from the vantage of the Jews of Salonika, Greece。

This is Mitch Albom’s best book。 A must read for our times。

“Truth be told, truth be told。”It is a difficult read that is wonderful。 The evil created by the Nazis is un fathomable。 The strength of the survivors is massive。 Please, Lord in your mercy, never again!

This was a very fast read, even though the topic was so heavy。 I knew nothing of the Greek Jews in WWII, so it is important in that sense, but I thought the narration by Truth was odd。 The story got wonky with Truth stepping in to narrate all the time。 If Albom would have just written from a generic narrator, it would have been much better。

I’ve read many books about the holocaust but this is up there with The Storyteller by Jodi Piccoult and The tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris。 The book is told by the point of view of “Truth” and how people don’t like to accept it and often run away from the truth by telling “Lies”。 The whole idea of lies and truth sets the foundation to this amazing book。 The book centers around 4 characters (Sebastian and Nico/ Greek Jewish Brothers) (Fannie/Young Greek girl) and Udo Graf (German SS off I’ve read many books about the holocaust but this is up there with The Storyteller by Jodi Piccoult and The tattooist of Auschwitz by Heather Morris。 The book is told by the point of view of “Truth” and how people don’t like to accept it and often run away from the truth by telling “Lies”。 The whole idea of lies and truth sets the foundation to this amazing book。 The book centers around 4 characters (Sebastian and Nico/ Greek Jewish Brothers) (Fannie/Young Greek girl) and Udo Graf (German SS officer)。 The story tells how all 4 of them from beginning to end deal with the Holocaust and the terrible incidents that transpired。 The book takes you through loss, heartbreak, love, human spirit and many more。 It’s truly an amazing story that will have you on the edge of your seat while holding a box of Kleenex。 。。。more

I enjoyed this book because I learned that the Nazi's Final Solution extended into Greece。 The story kept me interested, and I DID empathize with the characters, but there were several events that were just too coincidental for a historical novel。 The ending contained one such event。 I enjoyed this book because I learned that the Nazi's Final Solution extended into Greece。 The story kept me interested, and I DID empathize with the characters, but there were several events that were just too coincidental for a historical novel。 The ending contained one such event。 。。。more

Very readable and captivating, as told by the perspective of Truth and focusing on four major characters during the Holocaust and their lives afterward。 The subject is in itself sad but not maudlin。

An excellent book by Mitch Albom -A historical fiction book about the horrors of The Holocaust - what I just learned from this book was that thousands of Jews were deported by train from Salonika, Greece to Auschwitz。 Albom is a great story teller - from Tuesdays with Morrie, and the Stranger in the Life Boat - both of which I read - and I'm looking to read a few more of his novels as well。A very hard read - especially during these current times。 An excellent book by Mitch Albom -A historical fiction book about the horrors of The Holocaust - what I just learned from this book was that thousands of Jews were deported by train from Salonika, Greece to Auschwitz。 Albom is a great story teller - from Tuesdays with Morrie, and the Stranger in the Life Boat - both of which I read - and I'm looking to read a few more of his novels as well。A very hard read - especially during these current times。 。。。more

I've read a few of Albom's books but this one is his best! A riveting, powerful Holocaust book different from any I have read。 Characters and the "narrator" will live inside the reader for a long, long time。 Never Again。。。unfortunately, is now! Honestly, maybe his best story。 It’s well written, characters are well developed, and the premise of the story is heartbreaking。

Heartbreaking。 But I learned through this book that the Nazis actually invaded Greece at one point and I had no idea。 I feel like I learn something new every day。 This is such an emotional, but very well-told story of WWII。

Such a great WW2 novel。 Albom does it again! Told from the perspective of "truth" with four main characters over decades。 This reminded me a bit of "The Book Thief。" 5/5 stars Such a great WW2 novel。 Albom does it again! It isn’t often that you find a book that touches your soul, but this one truly moved me to my core。 I’ve always been intrigued by the memoirs of Holocaust survivors because it is mind numbing to think how corrupt humanity can be。 I believe that it is important to listen to these accounts so that we may learn from history and are not doomed to repeat it。 I picked this up from my local Target because it was on sale and I hadn’t seen it on the shelves before, but I didn’t expect it to be my new fav It isn’t often that you find a book that touches your soul, but this one truly moved me to my core。 I’ve always been intrigued by the memoirs of Holocaust survivors because it is mind numbing to think how corrupt humanity can be。 I believe that it is important to listen to these accounts so that we may learn from history and are not doomed to repeat it。 I picked this up from my local Target because it was on sale and I hadn’t seen it on the shelves before, but I didn’t expect it to be my new favorite piece of historic literature。 This novel is so beautifully written and includes such gut wrenching true accounts that give a whole new meaning to the phrase “never again。” 。。。more
